Western Colorado University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty position in Computer Science beginning Fall 2022 at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Candidates must have a strong commitment to teaching, pedagogy, and mentoring undergraduate students. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop and teach courses throughout the CS curriculum. As part of the newly minted Paul Rady School of Computer Science and Engineering, the computer science program at Western recently moved into a brand new, state-of-the-art building. Additionally, the new tenure track CS professor will be integral in working within the new CU-Western Partnership, a 2-2 program that allows Western students to complete a computer science degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder while living in Gunnison and attending upper-level CU courses (taught by CU faculty) on Western’s campus.

Western’s Computer Science program has over 100 majors, a comprehensive undergraduate curriculum, and three full-time faculty members. Duties: Teaching responsibilities include 12 undergraduate credits per semester across the breadth of computer science; Western CS faculty are expected to teach a variety of courses depending on interest and expertise, including (but not limited to): introductory programming, data structures, databases, web development, software engineering, computer architecture, systems, networking, algorithms, mobile app development, embedded systems, programming languages, etc. The position also requires advising, ongoing professional development, participation in administration of the discipline, and university service.

Qualifications: Applicants must hold or be close to completing a doctorate in Computer Science or related field. Candidates must possess strong communication skills, a commitment to undergraduate education, and to working directly with students. Applicants with significant and broad teaching experience are especially encouraged to apply. Collegiality is characteristic of the department and will be sought in the successful candidate.
