Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR)/Bureau for Public Health (BPH)/Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME)/Kanawha Co.-This position will supervise and lead the Autopsy and Decedent Services section of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in assisting with forensic autopsy examinations, identification services, and family support services. This position is responsible for scheduling the morgue technicians and other staff to cover autopsy operations six (6) days per week; training on how to assist physicians with forensic autopsy examinations, including collection of samples for toxicology, histology, anthropology and DNA analysis; operates and maintains medical imaging instruments and equipment; and completes necessary paperwork. Approves leave and payroll reports, completes Annual Performance Appraisal Evaluations. Collects and records evidence and personal property while maintaining appropriate Chain of Custody documentation. Maintains inventory of autopsy and office supplies for the section and serves as a Purchase Card holder for the OCME. Purchase supplies and services. Serves as a back-up supervisor for the Forensic Investigations Unit in the absence of the Chief Investigator. Serves as the Lead Investigator and manager of all unidentified cases, conducting the research and coordination required to establish legal identity of decedents. Position required direct physical contact with decedents and exposure to unpleasant, sometimes disturbing circumstances. Position may require some evening and/or weekend work as caseload demands. Incumbent provides direct supervision of twelve (12) staff members. Other duties assigned. Preference will be given to candidates with death investigation, mortuary, medical, and surgical experience.(0506P02627)

Minimum Qualifications

Training: Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university.

Substitution:Additional experience as described below may be substituted for the required training on a year-for-year basis.

Experience:Two years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in the area of assignment, one year of which must have been in an administrative or supervisory capacity.

Substitution:Successfully completed graduate study in the area of assignment from a regionally accredited four-year college or university may be substituted on a year-for-year basis, not to include the year of supervisory or administrative experience. ORCompletion of a related course accredited by the Department of Education may be substituted for experience at the rate of 1,080 hours per year, not to include the year of supervisory or administrative experience.
