    Job Description:

    Under the direct supervision of the classroom teacher, Site Director and Principal, the tutor works with individual and small groups of students on intervention strategies to enable students to access the curriculum

    Essential Functions:

    • Assist in the implementation of the Norwalk Board of Education and administrative policies, rules, regulations and directives

    • Follow Norwalk school policy to ensure student safety

    • Follow teacher's oral or written directions with accuracy

    • Deliver interventions to individuals and small groups of students

    • Implement interventions and programs with fidelity and integrity

    • Assist the teacher with creating instructional plans for intervention groups based on student needs

    • Assist the teacher with the preparation and distribution of lesson plan materials

    • Maintain student records of attendance, participation and progress in intervention groups

    • Demonstrates an understanding of the Norwalk Literacy Plan, CT Kindergarten-Grade 3 Literacy Initiative (CK3LI) and Multi-tiered System of supports (MTSS)

    • Actively participate in data meetings and is prepared to share out on student progress

    • Actively participate in professional learning as it pertains to job functions

    • Ensures maximum use of instructional practice and review through the use of routines and procedures that develop student independence

    • Encourage students to interact appropriately with peers

    • Assist and support students to use computers, iPads or other media to access curriculum

    • Maintain respect at all times for confidential information

    Other Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Interact in a positive manner with staff, students, parents, and visitors

    • Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude, and conversation

    • Maintain a level of approachability by administration, staff, parents, and visitors

    • Respond to questions and requests in a timely and appropriate manner

    • Attend meetings and professional development activities as recommended by teacher or Principal

    • Perform other related duties as assigned by teacher or Principal


    • High School diploma or equivalency

    • Bachelor's Degree preferred

    • Associate's Degree in education or related field or ParaPro Certificate or two (2) years of college

    • Two (2) years of experience working with children, preferred

    • May require fluency in Spanish

    • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Norwalk Board of Education may find appropriate

    Days: Monday – Friday (27.5 hours weekly/schedule determined by Principal)
    Salary: $23.56 - $28.08
    Group: One
    Bargaining Unit: NFEP
    Work year: August - June (10 Months/40 weeks)
