Primary Function:

Responsible to build, maintain, manage and enhance relationships with strategic (high-value and high-dependency) Enterprise Systems (ES) vendors and internal stakeholders (such as ES leadership and end users). Serve as direct liaison and single point of contact to Procurement, Finance, Legal and other supporting departments in support of strategic vendor management. Responsible for one or more strategic vendor relationships, ensuring that the organization achieves its objectives with strategic vendors and assists the ES strategic vendors to be successful at Grainger. Responsible for the definition and continuous improvement of strategic vendor management process and framework with Grainger Enterprise Systems

This role assures the quality, consistency and quantifiable results for the ES vendor relationship services.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

Relationship Management

  • Facilitates and maintains relationships between strategic vendors and internal resources, including ES stakeholders and executive leadership relationship owners

  • Partners and Collaborates with key stakeholders in Procurement and Enterprise Systems to establish, prioritize and track strategic requirements to be communicated to vendors

  • Responsible for management of third-party software audits and, internally, mitigating audit risk and discovering cost saving opportunities.

  • Develops, formalizes and directs relationships with one or more strategic ES vendors

  • Identifies appropriate relationships in conjunction with internal customers and vendors to drive proper alignment on business, purchasing, contractual and operational topics

  • Responsible and accountable for developing a framework for interactions between the vendor, Procurement and the Business

  • Ensures that requirements are well-communicated and well-understood, and clearly defines expectations from the business

  • Manages escalation and arbitration of relationship and operational issues if other avenues fail

  • Helps establish common goals between key stakeholders and strategic vendors

  • Ensures effective communication between the organization and each strategic vendor

  • Builds and maintains the vendor tier framework and evaluates and manages tier model in partnership with Procurement

  • Performance Management
  • Develop a structured vendor performance management framework to implement consistency across your vendor portfolio.

  • Establish, in partnership with procurement supplier performance management, and communicate clear and concise vendor performance management metrics by creating effective vendor management scorecards and dashboards.

  • Manages and measures performance of the overall relationship between internal customers and strategic vendors

  • Support strategic vendor contract audit requests

  • Risk Management
  • Gather data and prepare risk assessments for critical Enterprise Systems related vendors as needed, to be published and communicated to stakeholders.

  • Track and manage identified risks and risk events and engaging Grainger Legal and Procurement expertise, if necessary

  • Coordinate the identification and ranking of Enterprise Systems strategic vendor risks

  • Less than 25% travel

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Professional experience with global sourcing, vendor management, offshoring.
  • Ability to influence, along with a history of building and maintaining strong business relationships at multiple levels of the organization.
  • Strong leadership experience directing the provision of IT application and operation services.

  • Strong people orientation coaching and leading teams.
  • Experience dealing with and managing suppliers of IT products, services and labor.

  • Strong knowledge of purchasing regulations and laws.

  • Experience managing virtual, distributed, international teams.

  • Working knowledge of SAP in a complex multi-channel distribution environment.

  • Possess interpersonal skills including influencing, negotiating and listening.

  • Experience working with IT product, service and labor sources on a global basis.

  • Ability to interact globally with all ES functions and with business areas at all levels.

  • Skilled at leveraging 3rd party vendors to maximize business value from their capabilities / capacity and developing strategic partner ecosystem.

  • Skilled at Business Process Improvement.
