The Library Services Specialist in cataloging is responsible for providing student, faculty, and staff access to requested materials in a timely manner. This position will serve as a lead in creating and maintaining catalog records to current industry standards for material in various formats such as books, e- books, and media. The Library Services Specialist supports the College's mission of fostering student success, providing community access and enrichment and striving for continuous improvement.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Cataloging of all material formats for a multi-campus academic library

  • Creation of item records in the integrated library system (Sierra)

  • Preservation and repair of materials, to include bindery protocols

  • Authority Record Maintenance

  • Process interlibrary loan requests

  • Provide occasional assistance with circulation, customer service, and materials processing

  • Collect and compile data and statistics to help inform library decisions Implement library policies and procedures

  • Participate in Library or College committees and work groups Perform other duties of a similar nature or level

Job Requirements:

  • Associates degree and

  • A minimum of two years of relevant library or technology support experience


  • Candidates who possess similar minimum objective qualifications should describe in detail the education and work experience you regard as establishing the equivalency

The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Experience with original and copy cataloging of books, e-books, serials, and physical and streaming media materials

  • Demonstrated knowledge of cataloging standards and tools such as AACR2, RDA, and OCLC Connexion

  • Customer service experience

  • Significant experience with library and office technology and systems

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate information clearly and concisely both orally and in writing

  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively with a team

  • Ability to work in an independent, self-directed manner, seeking guidance as appropriate

  • Experience with library materials repair and preservation

  • Understanding of the community college mission and the ability to work cooperatively and effectively within a diverse community
