The DES, Division of Child Support Services (DCSS) is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Child Support Services Unit Supervisor with the Community Initiatives Region (CIR), Employer Relations/Medical (ERT) Unit.

This position is responsible for:

  • Supervising a Child Support Services unit with daily contact to statewide/national employers and working with child support staff statewide regarding employer related information, the coordination of employer related projects, and their ability to access/maintain the employer files.

This position has heavy public contact and travels to various locations in the State of Arizona to attend meetings and carry out the objectives and goals of the agency. Work hours for this position vary and may include travel to satellite offices or evening hours and weekends when needed.

Job Duties:
  • Schedule and set workload priorities.
  • Coach and mentor staff.
  • Conduct timely performance evaluations and discipline of personnel within the assigned unit.
  • Evaluate quality and timeliness of work product.
  • Implement procedural changes and monitor efficiency.
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of case-related activities.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
  • Knowledge of strong understanding of principles and practices of leadership and team motivation.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and agency laws, regulations, rules and policies governing the appropriate work assignment.
  • Knowledge of the administrative process for collecting child support payments; practices and procedures applicable to child support enforcement activities.
  • Knowledge of Employer community and associated business organizations.
  • General knowledge of the legal system and related terminology.
  • Skilled in applying effective leadership techniques; coaching and mentoring staff.
  • Experience organizing work assignments to meet objectives and goals.
  • Skilled in analyzing and recommending resolutions to problems.
  • Skilled in identifying process improvements and developing standard work.
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Skilled in establishing interpersonal relationships with leadership, direct reports and internal/external customers.
  • Ability to learn the child support enforcement case management, policy and procedures.
  • Ability to independently supervise a team utilizing tools and concepts of Arizona Management System.
  • Ability to accurately analyze high volume of information, relevant legal and factual issues.
  • Ability to apply judgement in the determination and application of appropriate legal remedies.
  • Ability to organize and control long and short-term projects.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with others.
  • Ability to work with established guidelines and follow set policies and procedures as related to job duties to ensure timeliness, data reliability and accuracy.

Selective Preference(s):
  • The ideal/preferred candidate will have experience in: Leadership, organizing/processing workflow.
Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Arizona Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • The position will require the possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12). Individuals may be required to use their personal motor vehicle.
