The Nebraska Department of Education is looking for an Assistant Administrator for the Office of Teaching, Learning, & Assessment, and Section Director for Content Area Standards & Instruction to direct the Content Area Standards & Instruction section and provide strategic leadership, support, and coordination. This position will also assist the Office Administrator of Teaching, Learning, & Assessment by providing strategic leadership and guidance aligned with the mission, strategic priorities, and goals of the State Board of Education.

Nebraska Department of Education employees are working from hybrid work locations. This approach includes both working in the work office and from a home office. The amount of time spent working from home or in the office is subject to supervisory approval and will be discussed at the interview.

Budgeted Salary Range:
$58,063.20 - $77,000.00 This range is based upon available budget funds. The selected candidate’s skills, abilities, education, and experience will determine the salary offer within this posted range.

Examples of Work

  • Assists in establishing the overall vision, goals, and implementation activities for the Office of Teaching, Learning, and Assessment.

  • Provides leadership and oversight of development, revision, and implementation of Nebraska’s Content Area Standards.

  • Develops and delivers professional learning opportunities for educators.

  • Provides leadership and support related to selection and implementation of high-quality instructional materials, including curriculum, digital resources, open educational resources, and assessment resources.

Delegates work and projects appropriately among staff.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responds to requests from the Legislature and Commissioner’s Office related to recommended or proposed legislation, and develops legislative proposals.

  • Works collaboratively to complete annual and biennial budgets, and ensures the budget reflects major projects and initiatives, operational requirements, and changes in state and/or federal regulations. Prepares budget reports, requests, and modifications.

  • Represents NDE on statewide committees, taskforces, and councils.


Working Conditions and Travel:
This position requires approximately 70% of work time spent in an office environment and the remaining 30% of work time spent traveling and working in sites such as schools, Educational Service Units (ESUs), other educational entities, conferences and meetings, etc.


Qualifications / Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in a related field and five years of experience related to the essential functions of the position to include leadership and/or managerial experience. Any equivalent education and/or work experience may be substituted in order to meet the minimum qualifications of the position.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in a related field and at least six years of successful preK-12 experience as a director, specialist, coordinator, department head, or administrator in an educational entity. Direct supervisory experience.
